Microsoft has released Windows 10 and updates will be available free to some operating systems and downloadable via Windows Update.
As with any new operating system, many issues are typically identified shortly after release prompting patches and updates. As of 17 August, three updates for Windows 10 have been issued and there may be more.
If you have a computer that is supported by CSCS you should not be prompted to upgrade it. Over the next few months, we will evaluate and test the new operating system and its compatibility with our systems and applications. If you are prompted to upgrade, please do not do so until we have completed our testing. We are waiting for the update situation to stabilise and will then commence our testing anticipating to be done early in 2016, at which point we will advise our user community as to our recommendations and plans regarding new hardware and updating existing computers. In the meanwhile any hardware set up by CSCS will continue to have the Windows 7 operating system.
If your computer is not supported by CSCS, please see this page from University Information Services for more information about Windows 10 in the University.
