Dell is replacing the OptiPlex 9020 line with the OptiPlex 7040. The numbering series change puts it in line with their other product lines like the Latitudes with the 3000 being base systems, 5000 mid range and 7000 high specification with better resilience and manageability.
The 7040s have Intel’s new Skylake processor which is faster and uses less power than previous processors. Also new is the option to upgrade to 32 or 64GB of RAM and a tiny Micro form factor that is 18.2 x 17.6 x 3.6 cm and only weighs 1.28 kg. If you have limited space, this may be an option to explore as it has several mounts available to hide the computer out of the way (see Dell for more information).
Dell has extended the same pricing as we had on the 9020 to the new models. See our purchasing page for more details and to generate a quote https://cscs.medschl.cam.ac.uk/purchasing/order-a-computer/.
