We have noticed that attackers are trying to compromise approximately 100 Medschl accounts, using remote login attempts against our email server.
By default, Medschl accounts lock for 30 minutes once a password has been incorrectly entered 5 times as a protective measure, meaning these accounts have had problems accessing our services (e.g. logging on to computers or accessing email on a mobile device or via webmail).
These attacks are coming from various sources in South America, so as a preventative measure we are temporarily blocking access to our services from these locations. This will end the account lockouts and restore normal service for those previously affected.
We are aware that there may be legitimate users affected by this temporary block. If you are affected then you should contact our Service Desk, who will be able to arrange alternative methods of access (e.g. our VPN service, which will not be affected by this block).
We may have to change the blocklist as the source of the attack moves, so advise checking back on our website or Twitter regularly if you are working abroad.
